On the occasion of European Heritage Days (EHD), the Casanatense Library invites the public to participate in a special event to be held on Saturday 27 September, starting at 9.30 am. A valuable opportunity to rediscover the history, art and architecture of one of the most evocative places in the city.
The day will be divided into two parts:
Guided tour of the Monumental Hall
Starting at 10.30 a.m., Dr Maria Francesca Migliori will accompany visitors on a tour of the rooms leading up to the Monumental Hall, rich in books and artworks, followed by an in-depth description of the Hall itself. The architectural elements – columns, capitals, decorations and statues – will be highlighted, and the historical and archaeological context of the Campus Martius, with its ancient monuments and symbolic meanings, will be discussed.
Views of Rome: engravings by Vasi and Piranesi
This will be followed by an exhibition of a selection of graphic material from the library’s collection, with views of Rome and its most famous squares. The engravings by Giuseppe Vasi and Giovanni Battista Piranesi, masters of the 18th century, will offer an evocative glimpse of the Eternal City, combining documentary precision and architectural imagination.
Admission is free. For information and reservations: 06/69760300 – www.casanatense.cultura.gov.it
