The Biblioteca Casanatense is pleased to host, on the occasion of this Jubilee year, the work of Sicilian sculptor Giuseppe Cuccio dedicated to the Last Supper, the subject of the traditional liturgical celebrations of Holy Thursday. The iconography of the banquet, charged with the dramatic premonition of betrayal, suffering and death, but also with the salvific projection of its overcoming through the Resurrection, has been, over the centuries, the object of study of many artists who have interpreted the Gospel story through their different sensibilities, both spiritual and aesthetic. It was therefore decided to make the intense works of the artist dialogue with some of the representations of the Last Supper present in the rich collections of the Casanatense.
