Silvestro Amanzio Moroncelli

Silvestro Amanzio Moroncelli (born Giovanni Francesco) abbot of the Silvestrina congregation of S. Stefano del Cacco was born in Fabriano in 1652.
He was a celebrated cosmographer, geographer and topographer.
In addition to the two Casanatensi globes he designed two globes for the Biblioteca Alessandrina in Rome and two for that of S. Giorgio Maggiore in Venice.
Others he dedicated to illustrious personages: among them, the Celestial one for Cardinal Albani of Urbino, the Celestial and Terrestrial one for Prince Odescalchi of Milan, and the Terrestrial and Celestial globe for Christina of Sweden, who emigrated to Rome and appointed Moroncelli as her cosmographer.
Famous topographic maps include that of the Marca and the province of Fermo edited by Domenico De’ Rossi and that of the territory of Fabriano.

The two globes cost the Casanatense 402 scudi of which 200 constituted the author’s fee.
Moroncelli died in Fabriano in 1719.
