The Casanatense Library celebrates Paper Sunday!
The Casanatense Library will be open exceptionally on Sunday 12 October from 9.30am to 12pm, with a programme designed to engage adults and children in a cultural and creative experience.
The occasion is Paper Sunday 2025, a national initiative promoted by the Ministry of Culture that celebrates Italy’s archival and library heritage through the extraordinary opening of state archives and libraries. It is an invitation to rediscover the value of paper as a guardian of time and memory.
This year’s edition is dedicated to the concept of the family as a place for the transmission of memory, and the Casanatense Library is offering the following activities:
Creative workshop for children
From 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., children will take part in an educational workshop dedicated to the creation of a silent book using the collage technique. This is an opportunity to stimulate the imagination and approach the world of books in an original and fun way, communicating emotions and stories without the use of words. During the activity, children will be able to admire some of the precious manuscripts kept by the Library up close, thus experiencing a close encounter with the history and beauty of ancient writing. The workshop will end with a snack, designed as a moment of refreshment and sharing.
Guided tour for adults
Starting at 9.30 a.m., visitors will be able to tour the rooms housing the museum collections and admire the majestic Monumental Hall. While the children are busy in the workshop, parents will have the opportunity to explore the library’s collections, which also include valuable engravings. A fascinating journey through historic shelves, ancient volumes and timeless atmospheres.
Participation is free of charge. For information: +39 06 69763000 / www.casanatense.cultura.gov.it.
We look forward to seeing you for a Sunday dedicated to art, history and creativity!
