The Collection
The Editti e Bandi fund is among the collections that, for its breadth and specificity, distinguish the heritage of the Casanatense Library. It consists of approximately 80,000 documents.
Ecclesiastical State
The printed edicts and proclamations of the Ecclesiastical State and, in particular, those concerning the city of Rome are collected in chronological order, not always respected, by date of issue of the document. Identified by the locations PER.EST.18, PER.EST.18.BIS, PER.EST.18.ROMA1866 and PER.EST.18.DUPL, they cover the period 1216-1870 (the few documents from the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries are printed versions from the 16th and 17th centuries); the exception is PER.EST.18.207 which contains pastoral letters for the Diocese of Padua by Bishop Carlo Rezzonico. Worthy of mention is the collection, contained in the location BANC.HH.2, of acts of the courts of the Signatura di Giustizia that carried out their activity in various Italian cities. Also present in some locations of the Monumental Hall, among the CC, and among the VOL.MISC statutes and government acts of cities of the Ecclesiastical State such as Bologna, Ancona and Perugia.
Catholic Church
In addition to the more specifically administrative provisions, among the PER.EST.18, and in various sections of the Library, there is also space for bulls, briefs, announcements of jubilees, granting of graces, privileges and indulgences, rules and provisions for religious orders, acts and decisions of some congregations. An interesting example, in this sense, is the collection of Resolutiones of the Congregation of the Council in six volumes (CCC.S.VII.32.1-6) in which there are numerous manuscript annotations by Benedict XIV. As regards canon law, the sixteenth-century editions of the collections of Decretales by Innocent III, Gregory IX, Boniface VIII deserve attention.
Republic of Venice, Duchy of Savoy, Kingdom of Sardinia
The edicts of the Republic of Venice, mostly from the 16th century, are found in some volumes of the VOL.MISC section.
As regards the Duchy of Savoy and the Kingdom of Sardinia, the documents held cover the time span from 1607 to 1848. They are located in the sections Editti e Bandi.1.I-XXV (partly manuscripts, partly printed); Editti e Bandi.2¹.I-III; Editti e Bandi.2² (notifications and provisions of the Intendency of Saluzzo).
